Abstract

Wherever resource centres are being planned there is a need for guidelines. They are as necessary in Newfoundland as elsewhere. Guidelines which have been developed at the national level in Canada and the United States can be considered unsuitable for the specific Newfoundland situation. -- These guidelines grew from the author's awareness of that need. In the formulation of the guidelines several sources were consulted: the published standards of national and provincial bodies; people working with and in resource centres in Newfoundland schools; and, any available literature of a general nature dealing with the topic. -- The guidelines are an attempt to satisfy the need for resource centre guidelines for Newfoundland schools.
