Abstract

The Division of Fine Arts is 20 years old and the Class of 2008 is our 17th graduating class. Over these past 17 years our Visual Arts graduates have established careers as painters, printmakers, photographers, film makers, sculptors and new media artists, here in Newfoundland and Labrador, across Canada and around the world. Others have gone on to graduate school or taken degrees in education, and are now teaching a new generation of artists-to-be who will emerge in a 21st-centruy world of new media, new critical theories and new opportunities to create art of the future. The imagination, craft, technical expertise and personal and social passions displayed by this year's graduates is a testament to the education they have received over the past few years, and a prediction of the promise that lies ahead for all of them.
