Abstract

The aim of this internship was to compile a list of recommended audiovisual materials to support and enrich the teaching of religious education in Pentecostal schools in Newfoundland. -- Audio and visual materials have been used in the communication process since earliest times. The administration of the Pentecostal Assemblies Board of Education, cognizant of the role of such media in communication, expressed a need for audiovisual materials to complement the teaching of religious education in its schools. This internship developed as a result of this need. -- To compile a listing of recommended audiovisual media of necessity requires an understanding of the need of intelligent selection, and an awareness of selection principles. The writer was guided by these factors in the determination of materials suitable for purposes of this project. -- The materials recommended include films, filmstrips, transparencies, charts, and audio recordings. These types of media were obtained for previewing from many different suppliers in the United States and mainland Canada. Local sources, such as district centres and the provincial Department of Education, were used extensively. The materials were evaluated according to the general and specific criteria commonly used in the evaluation of audiovisual materials. They are included in this report as an appendix. -- A number of recommendations for action in Newfoundland are presented as a result of the conclusions reached during the development of this internship.
