Abstract
Dr. Afua Cooper, Colonel Frank Lumsden and Chief Misel Joe provide talks on indigenous issues (past and present) at the Maroon and Mi'kmaq International Indigenous Symposium on the evening of November 5th, 2013. Talks include “The Jamaican Maroons in the 18th-Century Transatlantic Struggle for Black Liberation” by Dr. Afua Cooper, “Charles Town Maroons: Then and Now” by Colonel Frank Lumsden, and “Mi’kmaw Spirituality: Revival and Survival” by Chief Misel Joe. Dr. Angela Robinson provides a formal introduction outlining that the symposium and the issues it raises are important in a Newfoundland, Canadian and International context.
