Abstract
Maroon Colonel ("Chief") Lumsden talks about traditional Maroon beliefs, as well as other issues, employed by Maroons (past and contemporary) in cultural survival and maintenance. Chief Misel Joe of Conne River, Newfoundland, also speaks about the role of traditional indigenous beliefs and values amongst the Mi'kmaq of Newfoundland.
