Abstract

Le présent mémoire vise à étudier les questions existentielles qu’entraîne le phénomène de l’émigration dans L’ignorance de Milan Kundera. En utilisant l’émigration comme sujet principal, il traite des questions existentielles telles que l’identité, l’exil, la nostalgie, le retour, la mémoire et l’oubli. Cette étude s’appuiera sur les travaux de Jean-Claude Kaufmann et d’Amin Maalouf sur l’identité, d’Alexis Nouss et d’Edward Saïd sur l’exil, de Vladimir Jankélévitch sur la nostalgie, et d’Edward Casey au sujet de la mémoire et l’oubli pour l’analyse du roman. L’analyse thématique de cette oeuvre nous permettra de mieux comprendre l’expérience de l’émigré et les questions existentielles que provoque le « piège de l’émigration ». The present thesis aims to study the existential questions brought on by the phenomenon of emigration in L’ignorance by Milan Kundera. By using emigration as the main subject of the novel, the author deals with existential questions including: identity, exile, nostalgia, return, memory and forgetting. This study will make reference to the works of Jean-Claude Kaufmann and Amin Maalouf on identity, Alexis Nouss and Edward Saïd on exile, Vladimir Jankélévitch on nostalgia and Edward Saïd on the subject of memory and forgetting for the analysis of the novel. The thematic analysis of this novel will allow us to better understand the experience of the émigré and the existential questions that provoke the “trap of emigration”.
