Abstract
A definition of the term “graphic novel” is presented, along with a brief history of the genre, and reasons graphic novels are widely gaining acceptance as having aesthetic, literary, and cultural value and becoming the focus of scholarly research. The process of starting a graphic novel collection at the Ferris Hodgett Library, including choosing titles, collaboration with faculty, promotion, and cataloguing challenges, was described and graphic novel circulation statistics presented.
