Abstract
The v1 vibrational Raman spectra of oriented CH₄ single crystals have been measured in the temperature range from 89.4 K to 21.8 K. The experimental results show that the frequency, width and the depolarization ratio of the spectra change with the temperature and the orientation of the crystals. We think these changes are connected to the following factors: (1) Volume changes; (2) Vibration-rotation (coriolis type) interactions; (3) Probably molecular orientation change in some temperature range.
