Abstract
Thaw out and melt your winter blues with a live performance of award-winning composer Andrew Staniland’s Calamus 6 - a composition inspired by the infamous poem “Calamus” from Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass. Dr. Staniland will be on hand to provide an introduction to the piece. The performance will feature Memorial’s School of Music faculty members Jane Leibel, soprano, and cellist Vernon Regehr. After the performance, there will be a lively discussion on Whitman’s poetry by Dr. Mark Cumming of Memorial’s English Department and librarian Becky Smith will highlight other inspired compositions held in the Music Resource Centre.
