Abstract

This thesis attempts to establish the roots and trace the development of the Bay St. George Community College. The development of vocational education, adult education and crafts training in Newfoundland is examined in light of relevant developments in post-secondary, non-university education in the rest of Canada. -- The evolution of the college is found to be similar to the process which took place in other provinces. Issues which this college, as well as others, must resolve if it is to continue to respond effectively and efficiently to the needs of the community have been identified and commented upon.
